A bold claim that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has remained “undefeated since independence” has ignited fresh debate inside ZANU-PF, with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga now being urged to tread carefully.

The warning came via an X account linked to veteran politician Rugare Gumbo, though its authenticity remains unverified. Still, the message has landed hard at a time when Zimbabwe’s ruling party is facing growing internal scrutiny.
“People often mistake ED’s approach for that of Robert Mugabe… that is unlikely,” the post read, pushing back against speculation that Mnangagwa could move against Chiwenga in the same dramatic fashion Mugabe once did.
Instead, Mnangagwa is portrayed as a calculated strategist who wins quietly. The post claimed:
“I wish people would listen to me. No one in the history of local politics has outsmarted ED since independence. The worst mistake made by RG Mugabe was provoking him… while ED remains silent.”
The message carries a clear warning: confrontation could be costly.
“Chiwenga should exercise caution and restraint… Provocation risks undermining both his credibility and leadership stability. This isn’t the ZANU-PF way.”
The remarks come amid heightened tensions following Chiwenga’s recent biblical reference to King Hezekiah, widely interpreted as a subtle jab at Mnangagwa’s alleged push to extend his rule through the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 of 2026.
As succession politics quietly intensify, analysts say the stakes are rising. In Zimbabwe’s power game, silence may not mean weakness, it may be strategy.
