The announcement, made through ZIFA’s communications department, brings a sudden end to Marinica’s tenure, which began in 2025 when he replaced Michael Nees ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
ZIFA acknowledged the Romanian coach’s contribution, thanking him for his service and wishing him well in his future endeavours, a standard but respectful send-off that leaves more questions than answers.
TEMBO STEPS IN AS WARRIORS RESET
With preparations ongoing, ZIFA has moved quickly to stabilise the technical bench, appointing Kaitano Tembo as interim head coach.
Tembo, a familiar figure in Zimbabwean football circles, will take charge of the Warriors for the upcoming Unity Cup assignment in the United Kingdom, a key test for a squad still finding its rhythm.
He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi, adding continuity and local expertise to the set-up.
TIMING RAISES QUESTIONS AHEAD OF KEY ASSIGNMENTS
Marinica’s exit comes at a delicate moment for the Warriors, with momentum crucial ahead of competitive fixtures and international engagements.
While ZIFA has not disclosed further details behind the resignation, the timing places added pressure on the interim technical team to quickly steady the ship.
For fans, it’s a familiar script, change at the top, hope on the horizon.
WHAT NEXT FOR THE WARRIORS?
The focus now shifts to performance on the pitch.
With the Unity Cup looming, all eyes will be on Tembo and his backroom staff to deliver stability, results, and perhaps a renewed identity for the national team.
Because in Zimbabwean football, one thing remains constant:
The Warriors must rise, no matter who is on the touchline.
