Chirewa An Unused Sub, Munetsi Still Sidelined In Wolves Draw

Zimbabwe midfielder Tawanda Chirewa was left unused on the bench as Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) battled to a 1–1 Premier League draw against Everton on Wednesday night, while Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi remained sidelined, extending his frustrating spell on the sidelines.

Wolves Salvage A Point At Hill Dickinson Stadium

Everton looked set for a vital home victory after Michael Keane opened the scoring in the 17th minute, capitalising on early pressure and a bright start from the hosts.

But Wolves showed resilience after the break. Their persistence was rewarded in the 69th minute when Mateus Mané struck the equaliser, finishing calmly after being set up by substitute Jørgen Strand Larsen, who had only just entered the match.

The closing stages swung heavily in Wolves’ favour after Everton imploded. Keane was sent off in the 83rd minute, before Jack Grealish followed with a second yellow in stoppage time, leaving the Toffees down to nine men. Wolves pressed hard for a late winner but settled for a point that felt like progress.

Chirewa And Munetsi In Focus

For Zimbabwean supporters, attention quickly turned to Tawanda Chirewa, who was named in the matchday squad but did not see a single minute of action. While his continued inclusion shows faith from the coaching staff, meaningful game time has been hard to come by.

Marshall Munetsi remains unavailable after injuring his ankle against Nottingham Forest on 3 December. The setback ruled him out of AFCON 2025 in Morocco and has kept him out of Wolves’ squads despite the midfielder indicating he is close to full fitness. The club appears determined not to rush his return.

The Bigger Debate

Among sections of the Warriors faithful, there is growing belief that Chirewa needs regular football, even if that means a temporary move away from Molineux. While being part of a Premier League squad carries prestige, concerns are mounting that limited minutes could stall his development.

Those concerns are fuelled by interest elsewhere. Reports suggest Championship clubs are monitoring Chirewa, who spent time at Sheffield and Derby County last season before returning to Wolves. A loan move could offer the consistent action needed to sharpen his edge.

As Wolves continue their fight at the bottom of the table, decisions around squad rotation and player pathways are becoming increasingly important. For Munetsi, the priority is a full and careful return. For Chirewa, the question is no longer about talent, but opportunity.

For Zimbabwean fans, the hope remains clear: more minutes, more influence, and two midfielders fully firing for both club and country.
