Zimbabwean internationals Tawanda Maswanhise and Brendan Galloway have both scooped Player of the Month awards in the United Kingdom for January, highlighting Zimbabwe’s rising influence in European football.

Maswanhise, the sharpshooting forward for Motherwell FC, claimed the Scottish Premiership honour after an explosive month that saw him score six goals in five games. Meanwhile, Galloway, the Warriors’ centre-back and Plymouth Argyle captain, earned the League One award in England following a streak of three goals in a month, a remarkable tally for a defender.

Both players have been in scintillating form since representing Zimbabwe at AFCON 2025 in Morocco, proving that Warriors talent translates seamlessly to club football abroad.

Galloway: The Defender Who Scores More Than Strikers

Brendan Galloway once again proved why he is one of League One’s standout defenders. On 24 January, he scored the only goal in Plymouth Argyle’s 1–0 victory over Luton Town at Home Park, converting a rebound off a Lorent Tolaj header.

This match marked his third goal in January alone: he opened the scoring against Burton Albion on 4 January and netted again versus Bristol Rovers on 13 January. Beyond his goal-scoring, Galloway marshalled his defence with intelligence and composure, showing leadership both in and out of possession.

The former Everton defender’s influence has been pivotal. Fans and analysts alike note that his scoring form makes even top strikers envious, a rare combination of defensive solidity and attacking instinct.

Maswanhise: Sharpshooter Extraordinaire

Tawanda Maswanhise has been equally spectacular north of the border. Returning from AFCON, the former Leicester City Academy forward hit the ground running for Motherwell, scoring and assisting in multiple matches. His 13-goal tally in 22 games puts him at the top of the Scottish Premiership scoring charts, averaging a goal every 134 minutes, surpassing established names like Celtic’s B. Nygren and Hearts’ L. Shankland.

Maswanhise also earned the CAF Most Promising Player award at AFCON 2025, reflecting his growing reputation. His performances have attracted attention from Championship clubs in England, with talks already circulating about a potential Premier League return.

Zimbabweans Abroad Making Waves

The awards for Maswanhise and Galloway send a strong message: Zimbabwean footballers are not just participating abroad, they are leading games, scoring goals, and influencing results at the highest level. Their stellar performances show that Zimbabwean talent is not just surviving in Europe, it is thriving, making a mark, and inspiring the next generation of Warriors.
