“No action was taken to stop him…”
Political and social commentator Taffy the Man born Tafadzwa Ngubozano described the chaotic scene in blunt terms:
“Last night, Zimbabwe held its Miss Universe pageant. But moments after the winner was crowned, Temba Mliswa stormed the stage and began throwing money over her. No action was taken to stop him. They just let him kongonya around her like a dollar sprinkling uncle at a village wedding.”
He added:
“The queen tried to hide her embarrassment behind a smile but that fragile and strained smile displayed the weight of her discomfort.”
And concluded:
“Throwing money may be a known Zimbabwean practice at celebrations but in that professional setting, it looked misplaced and deeply embarrassing, especially for the winner.”

“Pana Sabhuku pakabhaizika…”
Culture commentator Plot Mhako was even more direct:
“Pana Sabhuku pakabhaizika. That act was uncouth”
“Shurugwi is on the map…”
Mliswa himself defended the moment, tying it to local pride after it emerged the winner is from Shurugwi, where he serves as a traditional leader.
He said:
“SaSabhuku weShurugwi (As a headman from Shurugwi), I’m so happy that Shurugwi is on the map locally and internationally.”
He added:
“We’ll do everything to make her life perfect. I’ll speak to the billionaire of the country Kuda Tagwirei who is also from Shurugwi to give her a car and a house. I’ll also talk to the president because he also comes from the Midlands. Shurugwi! Shurugwi! Shurugwi!”
