Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari secured his first win in charge of Highlanders as Bosso edged Dynamos 1–0 in the Jairos Jiri Charity Cup. The closely contested match offered an early glimpse into what fans can expect ahead of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

First Half Match Highlights

The match began at a lively pace. In the 10th minute, a defensive mix-up almost gifted Dynamos an opener, but the danger was cleared for a corner.

Four minutes later, Benjamin released Prince Ndlovu, whose inviting cross found Never Rauzhi. The forward struck first time, but his effort sailed over the bar.

At 14 minutes, Leeroy was cautioned for simulation. Dynamos continued to push, and on 17 minutes Witness Shave fired straight at the goalkeeper.

A free kick at the edge of the box arrived on 29 minutes, and moments later Trevor thought he had scored, only for the goal to be ruled out for infringement in the build-up.

Highlanders won a deep free kick on 35 minutes, but neither side could break the deadlock. After two minutes of added time, the teams went into the break goalless.

Second Half Match Highlights

The breakthrough came four minutes after the restart. In the 49th minute, Benjamin Odeugun found space and clinically finished to give Highlanders the lead.

Dynamos responded with changes on 50 minutes, introducing Magwaza for Bera. Nyahwa later fired wide, while Magwaza’s long-range attempt lacked power to trouble the goalkeeper.

Trevor received a yellow card on 65 minutes as tensions rose. A triple substitution followed on 70 minutes as Dynamos sought a way back into the game.

With 10 minutes remaining, fresh legs injected urgency, but Highlanders held firm. Further substitutions came on 84 minutes, and a late free kick struck the top right corner area but did not alter the scoreline.

After two minutes of added time, the final whistle confirmed Highlanders’ 1–0 win.

What Highlanders Win Means

The win gives Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari a confidence boost early in his tenure, while Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe will look to turn the narrow defeat into motivation ahead of the new league campaign.

As a curtain-raiser to the 2026 season, the charity clash delivered intensity, and a reminder that the country’s biggest rivalry remains as fierce as ever.
