Brendan Galloway celebrates after scoring goal

Fresh from AFCON 2025 duty with the Zimbabwe Warriors, Brendan Galloway wasted no time making his mark as he led Plymouth Argyle past Burton Albion in a commanding 3–0 victory, reminding everyone why he’s a force to be reckoned with in English football.

Just 21 minutes into the contest against Burton Albion, the Zimbabwean defender rose above the rest to power home the opener, a captain’s goal that immediately tilted the match in Argyle’s favour and announced that business had resumed.

It was leadership in its purest form: early impact, clear message, total commitment.

From that moment, Plymouth never loosened their grip. Burton were forced onto the back foot, chasing shadows as Argyle controlled possession and dictated the rhythm. Matt Ross doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute, before Luka Tolaj calmly converted from the penalty spot to complete a convincing 3 – 0 win.

For Zimbabwean supporters, this was not just another league result filed away on a busy football weekend. It was a statement, one that resonated far beyond Home Park.

Galloway became the second Warrior to score immediately after returning from AFCON duty, following Tawanda Maswanhise’s strike for Motherwell in Scotland. The pattern is impossible to ignore: Zimbabwe’s internationals are not simply making up numbers abroad, they are shaping games, leading dressing rooms, and delivering under pressure.

Beyond the goal, Galloway’s performance was a masterclass in defensive leadership. He organised the back line, read danger early, and stepped forward with confidence, looking every bit a player hardened by the unforgiving demands of English football. This is a defender who understands the grind, the physicality, and the mental sharpness required week in, week out.

It also capped a positive week for the Warriors abroad. From Scotland to England, Zimbabwean players returned from continental duty with hunger, not fatigue, and with performances that spoke for them.

AFCON may be behind them for now, but the message coming out of Europe is clear: the Warriors are back at their clubs, focused, trusted, and very much in business.
