After a shaky start that led to the exit of Herbert Maruwa, the Gweru side have turned to experience, handing the reins to Saul Chaminuka and backing him with a completely reshaped technical team.
This is not just a change on the bench. It’s a rescue mission.
Chaminuka steps in with immediate pressure: results. He is expected to bring stability to a side that has struggled for rhythm in the early stages of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.
He won’t be working alone.
Philemon Mutyakureva joins as first assistant, while Jacob Muzokomba remains as second assistant, a crucial link to the squad during this transition. Goalkeepers coach Peter Masibera and kit manager Denford Mutumbi complete the new structure.
Inside the club, the message is clear: stabilise now, compete next. The club said in reference to Chaminuka:
“His appointment signals our commitment to building a competitive squad capable of challenging the elite.”
For supporters, patience is wearing thin. The early-season form raised doubts, now expectations have shifted to urgency.
Because in this league, slow starts can cost everything.
TelOne have pressed reset.
Now comes the hard part, turning belief into results before the gap becomes too big to close. Can he do it? Time will tell. But he is not just another coach, he has experience.
Chaminuka is a veteran Zimbabwean football coach with extensive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League experience. He has previously coached Dynamos, Black Rhinos, ZPC Kariba, Manica Diamonds, Green Fuel, Kwekwe United, Buffaloes, and served as Zimbabwe national team assistant coach.
