Edinburgh – Zimbabwean international Munashe Garananga has officially joined Hibernian FC in the Scottish Premiership on loan from FC Copenhagen until the end of the 2025/26 season, pending work permit approval. The 25-year-old centre-back brings continental experience and physical prowess to a Hibs side chasing top-six honours.
Garananga’s journey has been a true global climb. Born in Harare in 2001, he cut his teeth at Ubuntu Cape Town before spells in Belarus (Dynamo Brest), Moldova (Sheriff Tiraspol), Belgium (KV Mechelen), and Denmark (FC Copenhagen). Along the way he’s lifted league and cup doubles, most recently with Copenhagen, and tested himself in UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League action.

For Hibernian Head Coach David Gray, it’s a timely boost:
“He has got some fantastic attributes… quick, aggressive centre-back who is comfortable in possession and playing out from the back. Another strong addition to the team.”
With only limited starts at Copenhagen, the move gives Garananga the game time he needs to sharpen his edge.
Hibs Sporting Director Malky Mackay added that the deal was straightforward and positive, praising Copenhagen for a smooth transfer and emphasising the importance of adding seasoned defensive quality this window.
On the international stage, Garananga has 17 caps for the Zimbabwe Warriors and featured at AFCON 2025, bringing leadership and African grit to both club and country.
Already flying the Zimbabwean flag in the Scottish Premiership, sharpshooter Tawanda Maswanhise has been making waves at Motherwell, and now Garananga’s arrival further strengthens the Warriors’ growing footprint in European football, highlighting a new generation ready to shine abroad.
