In a match defined by intensity, physical battles, and razor-thin margins, Haaland’s performance stood out not just for his decisive goal, but for his sheer work ethic. Bernado Silva said:
“Erling was fantastic today fighting for every ball. Today he fought like an animal.”
Those words from Silva perfectly captured the tone of a game where City matched Arsenal stride for stride, and then found the extra edge.
A win that shifts momentum
Silva was clear about the significance of the result in the bigger picture of the title race. He said:
“Very big. If we win the game in hand we’re on the same points. We’re happy that we can be on the same points.”
City now sit on 67 points from 32 matches, just three behind Arsenal, who have played a game more. Victory in their game in hand would level the standings, a scenario that seemed distant just weeks ago.
Game of fine margins
Despite the win, Silva admitted the match was far from straightforward. The Portuguese star said:
“I thought we were very good until we made the mistake and we changed the mood a bit after the 30th minute. Second half was tough, it looks like we were in control but they are always dangerous, they has two big chances.”
The numbers back that up. City dominated possession (59%) and completed significantly more passes (406 to 253), but Arsenal remained a constant threat, even edging the expected goals (xG) battle.
It was a reminder of just how tight the margins are at the top. He added:
“The small margins make the difference. Overall we played a good game. We were there, our fans were there, I’m proud.”
Haaland leads from the front
Haaland himself reflected on the battle with a calm but satisfied tone. The Norwegian sharpshooter said:
“I was quite happy I have to be honest. It was a great moment for me. A great win.”
But beyond the goal, it was his all-round contribution that drew praise, including a light-hearted comparison from the striker himself. He said:
“I think I remember that cross when he headed it out. I just told him he was like Cannavaro today. Bernie, you were really good.”
That exchange summed up the unity and fight within the City camp, a team peaking at the right time.
Title race far from over
Silva was quick to stress that nothing has been decided yet. He said:
“It’s a long season. A lot of small details didn’t go our way this season. Unlucky plays that we have had, we missed a lot of chances and today things went our way.”
City’s run-in now becomes crucial, with fixtures against Burnley, Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa still to come.
The immediate focus is the game in hand away to Burnley, a potential title-defining moment. Win it, and City could climb to the summit.
