In a heartbreaking development that has sent shockwaves through the football fraternity and beyond, Mujuru’s wife and all five of their children perished in a fatal head-on collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Mercedes-Benz truck at the 246-kilometre peg near Masvingo. The accident occurred on Thursday morning, 2 April 2026, at around 9:50am, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
For a man known in local football circles as a passionate and loyal Dynamos follower, the loss is almost impossible to comprehend. What should have been an ordinary family journey has instead turned into an unimaginable tragedy that has left friends, relatives, and fellow football supporters in deep mourning.
The ZRP, in a statement seen by ZiGoats.com, confirmed the identities of the six victims as members of the same family from Tynwald North, Harare.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Lilian Maranda Mujuru (40)
- Nokutenda Mujuru (15)
- Makanaka Mujuru (13)
- Ronald Junior Mujuru (11)
- Rufaro Shalom Mujuru (7)
- Kayden Mujuru (3)
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the force extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family while urging motorists to exercise extreme caution during the Easter and Independence holiday period. Nyathi added:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends deepest condolences to the family of the victims. We appeal to drivers to seriously consider road safety while moving on the country’s roads this Easter and Independence Holidays.”
The statement also dismissed circulating social media claims suggesting that the accident involved teams from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the police. He added:
“The Police dismisses any social media insinuation with the contempt it deserves.”
As news of the tragedy spreads, messages of condolence have continued to pour in from across Zimbabwe’s football community, particularly among Dynamos supporters who know Ronald as one of the club’s most committed followers.
Beyond football rivalries and matchday banter, moments like these remind us that the game is ultimately about people, families, and community. Right now, the football world stands united in grief with Ronald Mujuru.
