Zimbabwe Warriors defender Divine Lunga made a triumphant return to Mamelodi Sundowns, earning the Man of the Match award in a dramatic 2-0 Betway Premiership victory over Sekhukhune United.
Fresh from representing Zimbabwe at the AFCON 2025 finals in Morocco, Lunga slotted straight back into the Sundowns starting line-up after missing their previous outing. He impressed with composure, tactical discipline, and defensive alertness, consistently snuffing out threats and providing balance whenever Sundowns pushed forward.
Sekhukhune United proved tough opponents, remaining compact and disciplined throughout. Sundowns dominated possession but initially struggled to convert their control into clear-cut chances. The breakthrough came late in stoppage time, with Nuno Santos (90+1’) and Brayan León (90+4’) scoring to seal the win. Despite being substituted late in the match for Aubrey Modiba, Lunga’s leadership, timing in challenges, and calm under pressure earned him the MOTM honours.
Lunga also recently extended his contract with Sundowns, making this performance a statement of intent. His defensive authority reminded fans why he remains a cornerstone for both Masandawana and the Zimbabwe Warriors, delivering a blend of consistency, intelligence, and resilience that was key to the champions’ late triumph.
The victory keeps Sundowns top of the Betway Premiership on 32 points, three ahead of Orlando Pirates, who have two games in hand. Sekhukhune remain fifth despite a disciplined display. For Zimbabwean fans, Lunga’s return marks another bright chapter for national players excelling abroad.
