European football delivered another unforgettable Champions League night as Bayern Munich and Arsenal booked their places in the semi-finals, but in wildly contrasting fashion.

At the Allianz Arena, Bayern survived an early scare and then capitalised on late drama to beat Real Madrid 4-3 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate, while Arsenal ground out a tense 0-0 draw against Sporting CP to progress 1-0 on aggregate.

The semi-final line-up is now confirmed:

  • Arsenal vs Atlético Madrid
  • Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern punish Madrid in seven-goal classic

This was Champions League football at its chaotic best.

Real Madrid struck inside the opening minute through Arda Güler, instantly wiping out Bayern’s first-leg advantage and levelling the tie at 2-2 on aggregate.

But Bayern responded almost immediately, with Aleksandar Pavlović restoring parity on the night before the hosts seized control through Harry Kane.

Madrid, as ever, refused to fade.

Güler grabbed his second before Kylian Mbappé fired Los Blancos back level again, leaving the score at 3-3 on aggregate by half-time.

The turning point came late.

With the game hanging in the balance, Eduardo Camavinga’s red card in the 86th minute left Madrid down to ten men. Bayern pounced ruthlessly.

Luis Díaz equalised in the 89th minute, before Michael Olise struck in stoppage time to complete a stunning comeback and send the German giants through.

For Madrid, it was a night of brilliance undone by indiscipline and defensive lapses.

Arsenal get the job done

At the Emirates, it was less dramatic but no less significant.

Arsenal entered the second leg carrying a slim 1-0 lead from Lisbon, and Mikel Arteta’s men managed the tie professionally.

The Gunners controlled possession, created the clearer openings, and relied on a disciplined defensive shape to keep Sporting at bay.

Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli both threatened, but Sporting defended resolutely.

In the end, the goalless draw was enough.

Arsenal march into the semi-finals with a 1-0 aggregate victory, keeping their European dream alive.
