Zimbabwe’s Warriors announced a new era in style after edging Zambia 1-0 to lift the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament in Botswana, handing coach Marian Mario Marinica his first trophy since taking charge.

It was a night of grit, discipline and late drama as the Warriors found the breakthrough in the 88th minute, sealing a statement victory and further strengthening belief ahead of the 2025 AFCON finals in Morocco.

After a tense first half in which Zimbabwe created promising chances through Macauley Bonne and Bill Antonio, the deadlock finally broke deep into the closing stages.

The decisive moment came from second-half substitute Junior Zindoga, whose electric run down the right flank injected life into the attack. The lively forward beat his marker with dazzling footwork, leaving the defender on the floor before driving a dangerous effort toward goal.

The ball then took a cruel touch off Zambia’s K. Saisada, looping into the net for an own goal that ultimately decided the final.

While the scoresheet may not credit Zindoga directly, the TS Galaxy attacker’s impact was undeniable, exactly the kind of game-changing influence Marinica often describes as that of an “impact player.”

For Zimbabwe, the win is about far more than silverware.

It marks a major statistical milestone for Marinica, who succeeded Michael Nees in November 2025 and has quickly transformed the Warriors into a side with renewed attacking identity and belief.

Perhaps most impressively, Zimbabwe have now scored in every single match under the Romanian tactician.

The run began with a difficult but familiar 3-1 defeat to Algeria’s Desert Lions, before a 2-1 victory over Qatar. That was followed by a narrow 2-1 loss to Egypt, a 1-1 draw against Angola, a 3-2 defeat to South Africa, a commanding 3-0 win over Botswana, and now this 1-0 triumph over Zambia.

For a side that previously struggled badly in front of goal, the numbers point to clear progress.

Another standout statistic belongs to goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, whose recall to the national team continues to pay dividends. The veteran shot-stopper has now kept three clean sheets in the three matches he has played since returning to the Warriors squad.

For Zimbabwean football, this feels like more than just a tournament win.

It feels like momentum.
