In an official statement seen by ZiGoats.com, police said:
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Everson Masuka (48) in connection with a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred on 28/03/26 at around 0530 hours along Samora Machel Avenue, near Showgrounds, Harare.”
According to the police, the suspect was driving a Nissan Hardbody vehicle towards Chegutu when the fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police further stated that the driver “allegedly swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid collision with a vehicle in front of him.”
That manoeuvre, investigators say, ended in tragedy. In the process, the vehicle struck a 45-year-old male pedestrian who was walking along the roadside. The force added:
“In the process, he struck a 45-year-old male pedestrian who was walking on the roadside.”
The impact was devastating. The victim was reportedly dragged underneath the vehicle for about 20 metres, suffering catastrophic injuries. Police said:
“The victim was dragged underneath the vehicle for approximately 20 metres. He sustained severe head injuries and fractured legs. He died on the spot.”
What has intensified the seriousness of the matter is the allegation that the driver did not stop after the collision. The ZRP confirmed:
“The motorist did not stop after the accident.”
That detail places the matter squarely within the framework of a hit-and-run offence, which carries serious legal consequences under Zimbabwe’s traffic and criminal laws.
The suspect is now expected to appear in court as investigations continue. The case has once again raised concern over reckless driving and pedestrian safety on one of Harare’s busiest roads.
