For thousands of Zimbabweans in South Africa, a passport is more than a document, it’s access to jobs, healthcare, and dignity.

That’s why the latest move by the Zimbabwe Consulate Johannesburg is turning heads. From 29 May to 1 June 2026, a mobile consular exercise will bring critical services directly to communities in Mahikeng and Rustenburg, cutting out the costly, time-consuming trips to Johannesburg.

And demand is expected to be high.

The outreach will offer passport application processing, birth certificate registration, temporary travel documents (TTDs), and document verification, key services for many Zimbabweans struggling with expired or missing papers in South Africa.

In Mahikeng, the team will operate from Barolong Boo Ratshidi Recreational Hall (29–30 May), before moving to Zinniaville Hall in Rustenburg (31 May–1 June), with services running daily from 8am to 4pm.

VENUE DATES LOCATION / ADDRESS
1 MAHIKENG 29 to 30 May 2026 Barolong Boo Ratshidi Recreational Hall located at 10120, Montshioa-Stadt, Mahikeng, 2745.
2 RUSTENBURG 31 May to 01 June 2026 Zinniaville Hall located at corner Sachville street and Sonneblom street 112, Zinniaville, Rustenburg, 2999.

This comes at a critical time. Across the diaspora, thousands remain undocumented, locked out of formal employment and vulnerable to exploitation. For them, this is not just a service. It’s a reset.

Authorities have urged applicants to avoid middlemen, warning that no agents are authorised. Payments can be made via card or cash, though electronic transactions are encouraged.

One limitation remains: passports will still be processed in Zimbabwe, meaning collection will happen later.

Even so, the opportunity is significant.

Because in the diaspora, paperwork is power, and for a few days in North West, that power is finally within reach.
