The young Zimbabwean side had to dig deep from the very beginning after Morocco struck inside the opening two minutes to take an early lead, momentarily silencing the home support. But what followed was a spirited response that underlined the promise within the country’s next generation of women’s football talent.

Zimbabwe’s reply came swiftly in the seventh minute when Dee Winnie Mapuwa found the back of the net with a well-taken equaliser to restore belief and momentum. The goal lifted the team, and the girls began to take control of the contest with confidence and purpose.

Just six minutes later, Zimbabwe turned the match on its head. Lakeivia Jaravani capitalised on the growing pressure to fire the hosts into a 2-1 lead in the 13th minute, sending the bench and supporters into celebration.

By half-time, Zimbabwe were deservedly ahead, having recovered brilliantly from the early setback.

The second half, however, brought another stern test. Morocco returned with renewed intensity and managed to draw level after the break, making it 2-2 in what became a tense and fiercely contested encounter.

Despite the setback, Zimbabwe’s girls continued to push until the final whistle, showing maturity beyond their age in a match that demanded resilience, discipline and composure.

While the result ended level, the performance offered plenty of encouragement. From Mapuwa’s composed finish to Jaravani’s decisive strike, Zimbabwe’s young stars showed glimpses of the talent that could one day strengthen the senior Mighty Warriors.

For a team representing the future of Zimbabwean women’s football, this was more than just a draw. It was a statement of potential, character and ambition on a continental stage.
