HARARE – Zimbabwe’s power utility, ZESA Holdings, has confirmed that the prepaid electricity vending system is now fully restored following a nationwide outage that disrupted services from Sunday, 22 March 2026.

The disruption affected all third-party vending platforms outside ZETDC banking halls, including mobile money services, banking apps, and retail point-of-sale systems, leaving thousands temporarily unable to purchase electricity tokens.

In an official statement, ZESA’s distribution arm, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), said:

“The prepaid electricity vending system has been fully restored. Customers can now conveniently purchase tokens through their preferred platforms. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused over the past few days and thank our valued customers for their patience.”

During the outage, ZESA advised customers to use ZETDC banking halls as a temporary measure, a solution that presented challenges for commuters and households heavily reliant on digital channels.

The incident highlights Zimbabwe’s dependence on digital infrastructure for essential services and underscores the need for robust systems to prevent future interruptions in critical service delivery.

With all platforms now operational, customers can resume smooth, real-time token purchases, ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity across the country.
