PARIS – Zimbabwe Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi is back on familiar ground after joining Paris FC from English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking his return to French Ligue 1 football.

The 29-year-old midfielder joins Paris FC on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, closing a short but eventful chapter in England and reopening a league where he previously built his reputation with Stade de Reims.

Munetsi arrived at Wolves in February 2025 and made an immediate impact. Strong, tactically disciplined and relentless off the ball, he quickly forced his way into the starting line-up and became a trusted presence in midfield. He helped Wolves escape relegation last season. His contribution included a Premier League goal against Burnley and another in the Carabao Cup win over Everton at Molineux, underlining his knack for delivering in big moments.

However, momentum stalled following changes in the technical setup at Wolves. Limited minutes, coupled with a calf injury that sidelined him for six weeks, saw Munetsi slip down the pecking order. The injury also cruelly ruled him out of captaining Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations, a major personal and national setback.

Wolves confirmed the move in a statement, praising the midfielder’s professionalism and impact during his spell in gold and black.

“Marshall Munetsi has moved to French outfit Paris FC for the remainder of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season,” the club said. “Everyone at Wolves would like to wish Marshall the very best for his loan spell.”

From a footballing perspective, the switch makes sense. France is where Munetsi truly came of age, making close to 150 Ligue 1 appearances for Reims and scoring 21 goals before earning his Premier League move. His all-action style, tactical intelligence and physical presence are tailor-made for the French top flight, and Paris FC will be banking on his experience to add steel, leadership and goals from midfield.

For Munetsi, it is also a timely reset. Regular minutes are critical as he pushes to full fitness and sharpness, with club consistency directly tied to his importance for the Warriors. At his best, he remains one of Zimbabwe’s most influential exports in Europe.

Speaking after completing the move, Munetsi struck an upbeat tone, eager to get started.

“Very happy to join Paris FC. Looking forward to meeting the group and getting to work,” he said.

As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on whether this return to Ligue 1 reignites Munetsi’s form and confidence. If it does, Paris FC gain a battle-hardened midfielder, Wolves retain a valuable asset, and Zimbabwe get back a leader operating at his peak.
