Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, remains in custody at Harare Remand Prison, but is in stable condition, according to opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) national spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba.

Siziba revealed that he visited Karembera and 15 other detainees earlier this week, describing the detained activist as “well, resolute and in good spirits” despite the circumstances surrounding his incarceration.

In a detailed statement, Siziba reflected on his long-standing relationship with Karembera, dating back to their days in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). He characterised Madzibaba Veshanduko as a committed and patriotic citizen who believes he is pursuing change through the limited avenues available within Zimbabwe’s current political environment.

The opposition spokesperson said the prison visit was motivated by the principle of solidarity, stressing that political struggles require compassion, courage and unity, particularly in moments of adversity.

Injustice against one is injustice against all,” Siziba said, adding that the detained activists conveyed their regards to Zimbabweans and remain firm despite ongoing challenges.

Karembera was arrested in October 2025 amid a wave of detentions linked to foiled anti-government protests. At the time, independent broadcaster Change Radio reported that he had allegedly been abducted and assaulted by suspected security agents before being taken to Harare Central Police Station and later appearing in court under heavy police guard.

He is facing charges related to the alleged incitement of violence, accusations that have drawn concern from rights groups and sections of the opposition, who argue that the case highlights broader issues around political freedoms, due process and the treatment of detainees in Zimbabwe.

Authorities have not publicly commented on the latest prison visit. Meanwhile, political observers say Karembera’s continued detention remains part of a wider national conversation on civil liberties, protest rights and the limits of dissent in the country.
