HARARE – Former Chegutu West MP and practising lawyer Dexter Nduna was arrested and detained at Kadoma Central Police Station, awaiting his court appearance on Wednesday, 14 January 2026.
The arrest followed allegations that he threatened a Messenger of Court attempting to execute a US$41,000 debt attachment order against him.
What Happened – Property Attachment Turned Confrontation
According to police and court sources, a Messenger of Court arrived at Nduna’s residence on Tuesday to enforce a valid court order to attach a Toyota Fortuner owned by the former legislator over an outstanding debt. The officer was reportedly threatened by Nduna, who allegedly warned he would unleash his dogs if the attachment proceeded. The Messenger of Court withdrew from the scene and reported the incident to police.
Police allege that Nduna’s actions obstructed the course of justice, an offence that carries criminal liability under Zimbabwean law.
Debt, Attachments and Legal Backdrop
The disputed attachment relates to a US$41,000 judgment debt, prompting the creditor to initiate court-sanctioned enforcement. Under Zimbabwean law, Messengers of Court are empowered to seize movable property to satisfy unpaid debts. Interfering with such lawful enforcement, including threatening the officers involved, constitutes obstruction of justice.
The vehicle in question, a Toyota Fortuner, was part of assets earmarked for attachment in compliance with the judgment.
Counter Report by Nduna
In a twist, Nduna reportedly filed a counter report against the same Messenger of Court at the police station. Details of this complaint have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether it includes allegations of misconduct or other grievances.
