The win saw Scottland claim the 2026 Independence Day Cup after a disciplined performance that kept Highlanders quiet throughout the match. The Bulawayo giants struggled to break through a compact Scottland defence as the new champions managed the game professionally to seal the trophy.

In continental football, Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the CAF Champions League final after beating Esperance Tunis 2-0 on aggregate. The South African side, featuring Zimbabwean defender Divine Lunga, controlled both legs with tactical discipline and defensive strength.

Sundowns will now face AS FAR in the CAF Champions League final, with the first leg scheduled for 15 May in South Africa and the return leg on 24 May in Morocco. The winner will secure qualification to major international competitions, including FIFA global club tournaments.

Locally, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Week 8 features a full set of 15:00 kick-offs across the country, with several key matchups expected to influence the early standings.
