Zimbabwean Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Sylvester “Gladiator” Chipfumbu is steadily carving his name on the international stage, following the trail blazed by US-based Themba Gorimbo. The Gweru-born bantamweight recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Brazil’s Ribeiro at UAE Warriors 67 in Abu Dhabi last week.
The win reinforces Chipfumbu’s growing reputation and adds another feather to Zimbabwe’s MMA legacy. Across all rounds, he dominated the fight with calculated strikes, expert grappling, and an unwavering focus that earned him nods from all three judges.
Chipfumbu’s rise mirrors that of Gorimbo, the trailblazer for Zimbabwean MMA in global promotions. With a career beginning in 2016, Chipfumbu quickly made waves in South Africa’s Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC), defeating Pieter de Klerk via TKO at EFC 48, and later recording wins against Lourens Botes, Guy Mongambi, and Tumisang Madiba. He faced setbacks, including a TKO loss to Nkazimulo Zulu, but resilience defined his path. His breakthrough came in May 2021 at EFC 85, where he dethroned defending champion Faeez Jacobs in Johannesburg via unanimous decision over five intense rounds, overcoming an early knockdown with superior takedowns and grappling dominance.
Transitioning to UAE Warriors, Chipfumbu has maintained his momentum, notching TKOs over Imad Bouamri (2023) and Mahmoud Mando (2024), alongside a unanimous decision win against Ali AlQaisi in July 2025. The latest triumph in Dubai marks his 12th professional win (6 TKOs, 2 submissions, 4 decisions), despite occasional setbacks, including a 2024 KO loss in a rematch with Jacobs.
