The UEFA Champions League delivers another huge night of knockout football on Wednesday as Bayern Munich host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena while Arsenal welcome Sporting CP to the Emirates with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

Bayern take a 2-1 aggregate advantage into what is once again Europe’s most iconic club fixture. The Bavarians were excellent in the first leg at the Bernabéu, pressing aggressively, dominating midfield spaces and exposing Madrid’s back line with direct transitions. Yet against Real Madrid, a one-goal lead is never comfortable.

The key battle tonight is likely to be in midfield. With Aurélien Tchouaméni unavailable, Madrid’s structure without the ball becomes vulnerable, especially against Bayern’s fluid front line of Michael Olise, Luis Díaz and Harry Kane. Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović will look to dictate tempo and overload the half-spaces, forcing Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde into deeper defensive roles.

Bayern’s home record makes them deserved favourites, but Madrid’s counter-attacking threat through Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr remains the biggest danger. If Bayern push too high, the spaces behind their full-backs could decide the tie.

Prediction: Bayern 2-2 Real Madrid

Qualification: Bayern advance 4-3 on aggregate

Meanwhile in London, Arsenal carry a 1-0 first-leg lead over Sporting CP after Kai Havertz’s late winner in Lisbon.

This tie feels far more delicate than the scoreline suggests. Sporting are tactically disciplined, dangerous from wide areas and particularly strong at set pieces. The return of captain Morten Hjulmand is a major boost, especially in controlling Arsenal’s central progression.

For Arsenal, injuries remain a major talking point. Doubts around Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Jurrien Timber could disrupt rhythm and creativity. However, Declan Rice’s ability to control second balls and Arsenal’s aerial dominance from corners may prove decisive again.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Sporting

Qualification: Arsenal advance 2-1 on aggregate
