HARARE, Zimbabwe – NetOne, Zimbabwe’s second-largest mobile network operator, has rolled out a new 1GB for $1 data bundle, in a move aimed at improving affordability and daily connectivity for its subscribers.
The state-owned telecoms player announced the promotion this week, positioning it as a value-driven offer designed to meet growing demand for flexible and accessible mobile data. The company said:
“Introducing the 1 Gig FOR $1 value bundle promotion. Stay connected all day with our exciting offer of 1 Gig of data for just $1, valid till midnight from time of purchase. Dial *379# or *111# now. Ts&Cs Apply! #YourDigitalSolutionsNetwork.”
Customer-Centric Shift in Data Pricing
The new bundle comes just days after NetOne scrapped its Peak and Off-Peak data classes, a system that had long drawn criticism from customers who struggled to fully utilise off-peak allocations. The operator said in an earlier update:
“Dear Customer: Please note that we have removed the Peak and Off-Peak time classes on all NetOne data bundles. Dial *379# NOW to purchase a bundle of your choice and start enjoying seamless connectivity. Call 123 for more info or visit our social media pages. Ts & Cs Apply. #YourDigitalSolutionsNetwork,” the operator said in an earlier update.
Industry observers say the decision reflects a broader shift toward simplified, user-friendly data models, as operators respond to evolving consumer behaviour and increasing reliance on mobile internet for business, education, and social interaction.
Driving Digital Inclusion and Competition
By introducing a low-cost daily bundle, NetOne is targeting price-sensitive users, including students, informal sector players, and small businesses that depend on affordable data for day-to-day operations.
The move also intensifies competition in Zimbabwe’s telecoms sector, where pricing and value-added services are becoming key battlegrounds among mobile network operators.
Importantly, the removal of time-based restrictions ensures users can now consume data at their convenience, addressing long-standing concerns about wasted bundles and limited usability.
Positioning for Growth in a Data-Driven Economy
As Zimbabwe continues its push toward digital transformation, affordable data remains a critical enabler of economic participation. NetOne’s latest offering signals an attempt to align with this trajectory by lowering access barriers and enhancing customer experience.
For consumers, the message is simple: more value, more flexibility, and fewer limitations.
