HARARE – Zimbabwean defender Isheanesu Mauchi has officially joined South African Betway Premiership side Chippa United from Simba Bhora, ending weeks of transfer speculation.
The 23-year-old centre-back, who helped Simba Bhora secure the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title, has signed a two-year deal with the Chilli Boys. Standing at 1.95m, Mauchi is a commanding presence in defence and can also operate as a midfielder if needed.
Chippa United welcomed the defender in a statement:
“We welcome Isheanesu Mauchi to the Chilli Family. 🌶️🔥 Defensive steel from Zimbabwe added to the squad. 🇿🇼⚽”
The South African club hailed the signing as a major boost for both their defence and long-term planning.
Simba Bhora also officially bid farewell:
“Ishe Mauchi has completed a permanent move to South African side Chippa United. We thank him for his service and contribution to the club and wish him well in his new chapter.”
Mauchi’s transfer was not without drama. Earlier, Simba Bhora reportedly blocked a move to TS Galaxy, preferring a potential transfer to Scottland FC, which the defender declined. With six months left on his contract, Mauchi opted to see it through, and TS Galaxy’s later three-season FIFA transfer ban removed them from contention.
The defender recently earned a call-up to Zimbabwe’s national team for AFCON 2025 in Morocco, although he did not feature in matches. Analysts see his move to Chippa United as an opportunity to gain South African top-flight experience and potentially attract future European interest.
Chippa United, coached by Vusi Vilakazi, now has a versatile, experienced defender in Mauchi as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Betway Premiership season.
