Zimbabwe has officially stepped onto the global esports stage, confirming its participation in the upcoming FIFAe World Cup. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced that the nation will compete in Console, Mobile, and Rocket League categories, marking a historic milestone for local gamers and the wider football community.
Esports, short for electronic sports, is the competitive playing of video games professionally or at a high level, often across platforms like consoles, PCs, or mobile devices. FIFAe is the official esports arm of FIFA, hosting tournaments where top gamers represent their countries in globally recognised competitions. ZIFA Competitions & Projects Manager Kudzai Chitima said:
“This is a progressive step for Zimbabwean football. Esports is now a recognised extension of the global game, and our participation ensures that Zimbabwean gamers are not left behind. We are creating a transparent and competitive pathway to select the very best to represent the nation.”

Trials for Team Zimbabwe will soon be announced, providing opportunities for gamers nationwide to compete for a chance to wear the national badge. ZIFA Head of Marketing, Media & Communications Mike Madoda added:
“The modern game lives both on the pitch and in the digital space. Young Zimbabweans can see that their passion for gaming can translate into national representation. This is innovation, inclusion, and national pride coming together.”
