Zimbabwean internationals endured a mixed weekend across Europe and South Africa, with some making key contributions while others remained sidelined through injury, selection decisions, or administrative delays.
Munetsi Makes First Ligue 1 Start
Midfielder Marshall Munetsi made his first Ligue 1 start since joining Paris FC on loan from Wolves in January.
Munetsi featured for 73 minutes in Saturday’s heavy 5-0 defeat to RC Lens. The outing marked his fifth league appearance and sixth across all competitions for his new club as he continues adjusting to life in France’s top flight in his second tenure.
England & Scotland: Mixed Fortunes
In the English Championship, Lucien Mahovo, Takudzwa Gwanzura and Dylan Jones were not included in the Norwich City squad that beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1.
Tendayi Darikwa captained Lincoln City in a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers, continuing to play a leadership role for the League One outfit.
At Sheffield Wednesday, Marvelous Nakamba was an unused substitute in the Championship defeat to Millwall FC, while teammate Sean Fusire was not part of the matchday squad as he continues his recovery.
In Scotland, Tawanda Maswanhise played the full 90 minutes for Motherwell FC in their 2-0 victory against Aberdeen FC in the Scottish Premiership.
However, Munashe Garananga was not included in the Hibernian FC squad that defeated St Mirren FC 2-0.
In League One, Andy Rinomhota was again absent from the Reading FC matchday squad, while Tawanda Chirewa missed Barnsley FC’s 3-3 draw with AFC Wimbledon as he continues recovering from injury.
Brendan Galloway also missed the weekend action for Plymouth Argyle despite recently returning to training after injury.
Greece: Kadewere Introduced Late
Forward Tino Kadewere came off the bench in the 77th minute as Aris FC chased a late winner in their 1-1 draw against Volos FC in the Greek Super League on Valentine’s Day.
South Africa: Derby Duels And Tough Results
Daniel Msendami came on in the 69th minute as Orlando Pirates secured a 3-0 victory over goalkeeper Washington Arubi’s Marumo Gallants.
Junior Zindoga featured as TS Galaxy fell 2-0 to Durban City FC. Former Dynamos FC right-back Emmanuel Jalai played the entire match for Durban City.
At Magesi FC, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze started, while Edmore Chirambadare was introduced in the 67th minute as they lost 2-0 to Golden Arrows. Magesi remain rooted at the bottom of the table amid a worrying losing streak.
Meanwhile, Mason Mushore, who recently joined AmaZulu FC from Highlanders FC, is yet to feature due to a pending work permit.
Belgium & Italy: Antonio Off The Bench, Zemura Booked
In Belgium, Bill Antonio came on as a second-half substitute for KV Mechelen in their match against KRC Genk.
In Italy’s Serie A, defender Jordan Zemura played the full 90 minutes for Udinese Calcio in a 2-1 defeat to US Sassuolo. Zemura was booked in the 63rd minute but completed the match in what was another demanding outing in one of Europe’s elite leagues.
