Wicknell Chivayo’s latest grand gesture has once again set social media buzzing, this time after gifting a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and US$20,000 to the mother of music superstar Jah Prayzah.

In an emotional post, Chivayo praised Amai Shirley Danai Mukombe for raising what he called an “INTERNATIONAL music sensation.” He wrote:

“CELEBRATING MOTHER’S LOVE…🙏🙏🙏
It is with the greatest HONOUR that I wish to congratulate our special Mum… your car has been fully paid for and is now ready for collection… In addition, you will also get US$20,000 deposited into your bank account for fuel and pocket money.”

The mention of money being deposited into a bank account stands out. In many of his previous high-profile donations, including vehicles and large cash pledges to musicians, churches and football clubs, critics questioned the public display of hard cash.

Chivayo has made headlines before for his philanthropy. He donated US$1 million to the Zion Christian Church in 2024 and has gifted luxury cars to several public figures. Jah Prayzah and his wife have also previously received vehicles and financial support from the businessman during celebratory moments in the artist’s career.

But not everyone is clapping. Former Mt Pleasant MP Fadzayi Mahere has previously raised concerns about transparency and accountability, questioning the source of funds behind such large-scale generosity and warning about possible money-laundering risks.

Supporters argue Chivayo is simply celebrating talent, culture and motherhood in a bold way. Critics insist that when millions of dollars are involved, public interest questions are unavoidable.
