Zimbabwe Warriors and Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway will be sidelined for around four weeks after undergoing a routine hernia procedure on Monday.
The Zimbabwe international had to pull out of training on Friday ahead of Argyle’s away clash with Blackpool, suffering a recurrence of the abdominal issue that forced him off during the 2-1 defeat at Stockport County on January 31.
Galloway missed the subsequent 4-1 loss to Lincoln City at Home Park and was expected to return for the Blackpool game, but the setback in training meant surgery was needed.
With Galloway out, Wes Harding stepped in at left-back, delivering a solid performance as Argyle cruised to a 4-0 win over Blackpool, moving the team up to 12th in League One. Matty Sorinola remained unavailable due to suspension.
Head coach Tom Cleverley said:
“Brendan (Galloway) felt a recurrence of his abdominal issue during training. He had a routine hernia (surgery) procedure on Monday and will be out for four weeks. We knew about the hernia and tried an injection to manage the pain, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.”
Galloway had been in scintillating form following his return from AFCON, where he excelled for the Zimbabwe Warriors. The former Everton defender also netted three goals in January for Plymouth, an impressive tally for a defender.
Argyle will hope Galloway’s quick recovery keeps their defensive and attacking momentum alive as League One heats up.
