The Zimbabwean football family has been plunged into deep mourning following the tragic death of former TelOne FC midfielder Frank “Warrior” Bushiri, who died in a horrific road traffic accident in Gweru on Sunday morning.
Bushiri, who was plying his trade with Sheasham FC in the Central Region Division One League, reportedly lost control of his vehicle at a sharp curve just after Regina Mundi High School, near the Ridgemont area. The car veered off the road and crashed into a tree with devastating force, splitting both the vehicle and the tree in two. He is understood to have died on the spot.
Preliminary reports suggest Bushiri was alone in the car at the time of the accident. Other unconfirmed accounts indicate he may have earlier rear-ended another vehicle before driving off, moments later losing control at the bend. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Bushiri was a well-travelled and respected midfielder who wore the colours of Shabanie Mine FC, Chapungu FC, TelOne FC, and most recently Sheasham FC, where he had quickly become a key figure following his move from Chapungu. Known for his work rate, leadership, and fighting spirit on the pitch, he earned the nickname “Warrior” for his uncompromising style of play.
His passing has sent shockwaves across the local football community, with clubs, teammates, supporters, and administrators paying tribute to a player remembered not only for his talent, but also for his commitment and humility.
As the football fraternity mourns yet another life lost too soon, Bushiri’s death is a painful reminder of the importance of road safety. Our heartfelt condolences go to the Bushiri family, friends, teammates, and the entire Sheasham FC and TelOne FC family during this difficult time.
