The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested an army corporal and a suspected fake police officer following a major Beitbridge drug bust. Police confirmed the arrest after intercepting a Toyota Hilux along the Harare–Beitbridge Road near Bubi, where officers recovered a large consignment of marijuana allegedly destined for Harare.

In a statement seen by ZiGoats, police spokesperson said:

“The ZRP has arrested a bogus policeman, Norest Jingura  (35) and a member of the security services, Alison Maredza  (43), for drug peddling and trafficking along Harare -Beitbridge Road near Bubi. The suspects were travelling in a Toyota Hilux vehicle, registration number AGP 1412, owned by the security service member, with the bogus police officer in full police uniform, wearing Assistant Inspector rank badges. The National crack team intercepted the vehicle on its way to Harare and recovered 120 cobs of dagga. The ZRP is now conducting comprehensive investigations to establish how Norest Jingura obtained the police uniform.

Police confirmed the Toyota Hilux was loaded with 120 tightly sealed packs of marijuana (Mbanje /Dagga) weighing about 600 kilograms and valued at approximately US$96,000.

According to ZRP, the vehicle was intercepted following intelligence gathered by the National Crack Team, which has intensified surveillance along key trafficking routes linking Beitbridge and Harare. Authorities say traffickers are increasingly using security-style vehicles and counterfeit uniforms to evade detection.

Investigations are now focused on how the fake officer obtained official police regalia and whether more suspects are linked to the operation.

Police say both suspects have been handed over to CID Drugs and Narcotics in Beitbridge as efforts continue to dismantle organised drug networks operating along Zimbabwe’s southern border.

The ZRP has reiterated its warning, the fight against drug peddling and trafficking remains a top national priority.
