Harare City Council has warned residents and businesses to brace for a dry weekend, or possibly longer, after shutting down major water controls for unplanned repairs.

The city fathers said the repairs were necessitated by pipe bursts at the Warren Park control, which also affected Letombo control. In a statement seen by ZiGoats, the local government authority said:

“The two major lines from Warren Control to Letombo and Warren Control to Alex Park are affected. This situation has necessitated the immediate shutdown of Warren Control and an unplanned total shutdown from 13 February 2026 at 1800hrs to 14 February 2026 at 1800hrs.”

The shutdown is expected to allow engineers to conduct scouring, assess the lines, and carry out necessary repairs. Areas that will be affected include the CBD, Tynwald, Southerton, Eastlea, Hillside, Braeside, Milton Park, Parirenyatwa Hospital, and surrounding suburbs.

City authorities have urged residents to conserve water during this period. Officials also apologised for the inconvenience, noting,

“We encourage all residents to use water sparingly during this time. Any inconveniences caused are sincerely regretted.”

Residents and businesses are being advised to store sufficient water for essential use until normal services are restored. The Council has promised to provide updates should the repair works extend beyond the scheduled 24-hour window.
